Summer activities keep us busy! We want to squeeze all we can out of this beautiful weather, so we go kayaking, fishing, camping, climbing, swimming, hiking, walking, biking, picnicking, boating, vacationing, visiting lemonade stands, and just sitting or laying out in this beautiful weather. Don’t forget to start each day of your summer with a prayer of gratitude to the God Who created the day! Then purpose to live your day, whether you eat, drink, or go vacationing, all to the glory of God.
Summer also provides several wonderful opportunities to serve Christ! Generally, we are around people a lot more in the summer than in the winter months. Take those opportunities to have a conversation about Jesus. As you meet folks and spend time at picnics, parks, and the lake, talk to your new friends about what Jesus did for them on the cross! Keep Him ever on your mind and quick to your speech.
John the Baptist chided the Pharisees for being believers in name only. James preached God’s message in chapter two of his epistle about how our faith without works is dead. Summer provides great opportunities to show the new you: the “new creature” created in Christ when you got saved! Mow someone’s yard, pick up trash, volunteer to make a difference at the Boys and Girls Club or through the Big Brother Big Sister program.
So this summer, as we enjoy God’s wonderful creation and perhaps take a break from the duties of life, let’s be sure to honor God, be a witness for Christ, and demonstrate the change that Christ makes. You’ll have a GREAT summer!
